About the Book
For the last seven years I have exclusively made platinum and palladium prints of my photographs. However, color was such an integral part of the beauty of this suite of work from Cuba, that the photographs demanded being presented in color, at least initially. I say "initially" as I am in the process of selecting certain ones for printing using palladium as the light sensitive medium. The photographs in the present issue are from Havana and Trinidad. Also, one was rarely out of earshot of music which beautifully complemented the color, texture and romantic blending of the features presented in this suite of work.

I became interested in photography as a part of my interest in mountaineering. More and more photography replaced mountaineering as my primary interest. When I retired from the practice of Neurosurgery in 1999 I studied black and white photography for two years with the goal of doing platinum and palladium printing. I began printing in that medium in 2001 and have basically done that ever since. There are some subjects, however, which inescapably lend themselves to color and in which color is an integral part of the photographic experience. It was in recognizing that which led me to publish my first book in color: "Cuba, A Romance of Light and Color".
