This is an edited extract from Volume 7 of the jointly-written Journal (1813-21) of the two young daughters of the Dowager Marchioness of Downshire: mother and daughters are referred to in the text as "Three little mice". Ombersley Court, Worcestershire was the ancestral home of the Dowager Marchioness' family - but only rarely visited.
