About the Book
Paid Notices is a work of uncommon collaboration. Vincent Stanley’s poems play with the language and meaning, both intended and obscured, of paid obituaries placed in The New York Times. Ryk Ekedal’s photographs, unexpected and closely observed studies drawn from New York City’s streets, accompany each of the 12 poems. Text and image work quietly on their own, but seen together generate something new, lean and uncanny.
Vincent Stanley’s poems have appeared in Fulcrum and Best American Poetry. Ryk Ekedal is a painter, printmaker, and camera wanderer.
