About the Book
This is a book of poems that looks deeply at the human condition. Applicable to everyone, the poems were inspired by the Ifa religion of the Yoruba people, indigenous to Nigeria, and brought as slaves over to Latin America. Marcos Sanchez, the book's author is a Babalawo (priest of Ifa) and an Olorisa of Yemoja (a Deity in the Orisha religion). Words of praise:
"The deep and endless wisdom of Ifa has shaped and inspired the beautifully thoughtful words of the poet Marcos Sanchez. May they guide us on our life’s journey….ASHE/ACHE/AXE! " — Henry John Drewal (Ifasola), Evjue-Bascom Professor of Art History, University of Wisconsin, Madison
"Marcos Ifalola Sanchez's poems are the result of deep contemplation upon the wisdom of the Odu of Ifa. In fact, they can serve as a kind of commentary on the Odu of Ifa for those familiar with the latter, and an accessible introduction for those yet to become acquainted with Ifa. Practical, playful, profound, and piercing, Sanchez's poetry reflects the beauty of the verses of Ifa, but in an idiom, and with a charm, all of its own. " - Oludamini Ogunnaike, Professor of African Religious Thought and Democracy at The University of Virginia
