Foreword by Mary Franck
Afterword by Alvin Huang
//
Studio Premise -
With the advent of digital manufacturing methods a new paradigm of computational modeling has emerged focused on the programming of complex systems. This is a topical course that mixes analysis of textile design with the greatly expanding generative & parametric techniques in three-dimensional computer modeling & scripting. A series of projects will conclude with preparing an in depth proposal for high-performance wearable design through generative & parametric 3D modeling. We will incorporate drawing, 3D printing and laser cutting technologies to develop and expand our design concepts. We will explore the wide array of new developments in these fields creating tactile models, drawings and animations that explore digital to real world connections and the material possibilities afforded by new means of. The class will be structured around a series of projects as we build both generative & parametric tools as a means to produce performative garments and body based outcomes that span the definition art and design.
