About the Book
What is British? is a book from a project that uses photography to explore the social landscape. Creating a visual portrait of the varying identities, found within a one-mile radius of the Rotherhithe Tunnel in London. This area has undergone rapid change in the past thirty years. The City of London has effectively expanded east to include Canary Wharf, de-industrializing old working class neighborhoods. At the same time, the area has seen continued immigration alongside the construction of this extended ‘global city’, whose main 'raison d’ être' is to act as a leading financial centre for the world economy.
