About the Book
The Stories of the Land and its People project is a yearlong arts-integration program between the Farnsworth Art Museum and Maine public schools. In this project, South School students collaborated with museum educators, classroom teachers, artists, and community members to learn the story of their community through arts-integrated lessons. This book reflects the results of this project-based, experiential learning experience. Using a visual learning and inquiry-based approach, these fourth grade students studied math, science, and language arts through photography, music, writing activities, fieldwork, and classroom research. Their curiosity led them to study patterns in nature, which they then used to create poetry and learn more about the science and math behind these beautiful objects.
