About the Book
By the mid-1850s Dixon was experiencing the challenges and problems of a growing community as well as exiting the isolation of the times with the advent of a newspaper, railroads, and telegraph. Outside events impacted the village as the country lurched toward a civil war. Leading citizens were building factories and fortunes, establishing schools and cultural endeavors, and promoting changes in the way the city was governed.
