About the Book
Award-winning Master's Report.
Abstract:
Golf Courses provide large natural areas for people to use in order to enjoy outdoor recreational activities. Recently many golf course facilities across the nation are struggling to maintain costs for daily operations. This is forcing closures of golf courses, creating large amounts of open green space that can no longer be used by the surrounding community. Public golf courses, within an urban fabric, are not operating at their full potential. This project aims to eliminate the idea that golf courses need to be entirely removed when struggling to continue daily operations. By looking to expand upon a golf course facilities' overall programming, the perceived value to its surrounding community can be re-established. Project outcomes for this report include a new master plan of El Dorado Golf Course in Tucson, Arizona, with several focus areas highlighting the strategies used to design a multi-use outdoor recreational facility for both golfers and non-golfers alike to enjoy together.
