I don’t think that I really knew how strong emotions could be until I became a parent. Maybe that’s how it is with guys. I can’t speak for the rest of them, but for me, I was awash with feelings:



Nervousness – It’s time!

Relief — We made it to the hospital and everything went as planned.

Intense love — My wife was amazing.

Fear — How are we going to take care of this helpless baby?

Amazement — What a miracle this all is!

Panic — Oh my God, how much will college cost in 18 years?

Joy — That new little person is our son!



Maybe when you have 8 or 10 kids it becomes routine, but for both of our sons, it was, despite my attempts to describe it, indescribable.



One of the real bonuses of having children, if you’re a photographer, is that you have 24/7 subject matter. I have no idea how many pictures I took when our sons were growing up, but thousands must surely be an understatement. Now that they’re both in their 30's I don’t see them as much, but I still love them as much and I could not be more proud of them.



In my mind as well as in my pictures I can still see those happy days over and over again. This book offers a glimpse of those memories.
