About the Book
Spring Colors is a visual celebration of this rich season. It utilizes theatrical metaphors of Stars, Cameos and Supporting Cast to develop an easy organization of the players. In close-up portraits, family groupings and sweeping panoramas, the book features native wildflowers in their natural settings. The book’s 154 color photos illustrate 63 of our best known wildflowers - including the surprising Cameos along the way. A 13-page essay introduces the early botanists in Texas, describes the highway department’s cultivation of wildflowers from 1927 to the present - and of course - Lady Bird Johnson’s Beautification Program and the creation of the Wildflower Center with its ongoing research and outreach. Captions provide information about each flower.
