About the Book
Symbols of Affection, is a series of photographs,
taken close up of the graveyard flowers,
(organic or otherwise), placed there by loved ones,
to commemorate those at rest.
The flowers represent an emotional offering from one soul to another,
as well as being a physical and symbolic gesture.
Their presence and colours, light up a place of quiet and personal
contemplation.
Like bright beacons, they keep a vigil over their allotted kin,
on behalf of those not present.
Individually and carefully placed, these ornamental guardians, form
a delicate but unified blanket of colour and meaning.
All photographs were taken in Hickling, Norfolk 2009.
