About the Book
Quebec, Vermont and New Hampshire Round Barns, Works of Genius in Rural Architecture
At one time the area east of Quebec City had the highest concentration of octagonal barns in North America. Topping that, northern Vermont and the Eastern Townships of Quebec can boast the highest concentration of true-circular barns in North America. In total, the area now called the Lake Champlain and St. Lawrence River region, had at least 194 round and multi-sided barns at one time, but only 35 remain, a loss of 82 percent. This book is the complete history of these wonderful buildings as it delves into the designers, architects, builders, farmers, entrepreneurs and promoters of these fine structures. Containing more than 400 modern and historical photographs, statistical charts and tables this book will satisfy the wants of any reader interested in agricultural vernacular architecture.
