About the Book
This series takes a look at color and texture, and the emotions that these elements can invoke. Clouds are the subject matter because they are always changing and no one experiences them in the same way. The clouds bring texture and depth to the images. The colors I used were chosen purely on instinct. I didn’t go into any of the photos knowing what I wanted them to look like but, instead, played around with the colors until they felt like they fit the image.
Eric Cahan’s ‘Sky Series’ influenced this body of work. His unrealistic and brightly colored sky gradients drew me in and I am fascinated by how the colors interact in his images. For my series, rather than only focusing on color, I added the textural element of clouds because I like the depth and abstraction that they bring to my photographs. The various colors interacting with the forms of the clouds create new worlds because the clouds are familiar but the color of them are not.
