About the Book
The Ordinary Instant is an exploration of generational caretaking in a woman dominated family, especially in a time of grief, and figuring out where I grow from here. My dad’s mother struggled with Alzheimer’s for 7 years before she passed and in that time my mom stepped up to take care of her then went on becoming a home health aide for elderly people in our community. The project examines how family shapes the process of growing up, aging, and letting go of those losses. My Nanny passed away the week of my 18th birthday, it was sudden so there was barely any time before her death that could have prepared us for this grief. My mom cared for all of us during this period alongside my oldest sister as my dad distracted himself with work.
