About the Book
The Steamship J. B. Ford was a very old Great Lakes bulk carrier that existed on the Great Lakes for 117 years. In 1990 the author discovered the vessel deep in the heart of Chicago's Calumet Harbor. The following March of 1991 a group of 30 Chicago Maritime Society guest had the unique experience to tour this vessel when it was 87 years old. This is a chance to see what they saw back in 1991 and explore a vessel the survived the Great Lakes storm on November 28, 1905 where 20 ships were wrecked or sunk on Lake Superior. The vessel is not a museum, and in 2021 was broken up for scrap. Included are vintage photos and drawings of the ship.
