About the Book
South Holland Miscellany is a project by Stuart Henderson which involves the publication each fortnight of miscellaneous articles relating to South Holland District in Lincolnshire. Topics covered include history, landscape, people, places and architecture. Each article is written by Stuart and illustrated with his own photographs and illustrations. They are designed to be a light read, and heavily visual. This book collates the first 16 articles published in the series. These comprise: (A) Four GAZETTEER articles: Profiles of the Parishes of Little Sutton, Surfleet and Sutton St. Edmund, and Monks House Ward, Spalding. (B) Five ARCHITECTURE articles: Old Johnson Hospital, Searching for Spalding Priory, Matthew Flinders house in Donington, Moulton Windmill and Almshouses across the District. (C) Two LANDSCAPE articles: South Holland’s Natural Landscape and The Coastline since Medieval Times (D) One PEOPLE article: The Murder of Samuel Stockton (E) One HISTORY TIMELINE article: Bronze Age Fen Dwellers (F) Three PORTRAIT articles: Artistic scenes of Crowland Abbey, St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church Gosberton, and Cowbit. Further books will be published approximately six monthly with future articles.
