In Tanzania, albinos are commonly known as “Zeru” in Swahili, which means ghost-like creatures and is used as a derogatory term. Around lake Victoria, evil acts are driven by the belief that albino body parts possess magical powers. It is believed these body parts will bring wealth if used in potions produced by local witchdoctors.

About the Creator
Franck Vogel works as a photojournalist specializing in Water, Environmental & Social issues for the international press (GEO, Paris Match, Stern, Bloomberg Businessweek). He is also a speaker and a documentary film director (France Television). He is currently focusing on global Water Conflicts with the Transboundary Rivers' Project and has completed stories on the Nile, the Brahmaputra, the Colorado, the Jordan and the Mekong. Articles are subsequently published by GEO, featured by the BBC and in exhibitions (Singapore, Paris, Geneva...) as well as in lectures Vogel gave at Columbia University or at COP22 with Erik Orsenna. A two-volume book "Fleuves Frontières" by French publishing house La Martinière will be released in 2016 and 2019. He is well know for his work on the Bishnois, the world's first environmentalists in India, and his investigation on the Albino killings in Tanzania. Both books are available on Blurb. In Oct 2013 Franck received highest honors from the Bishnois.
