About the Book
On July 27,2008, a lone gunman entered a church in Knoxville, Tennessee during a children's play and opened fire. Two people died, 8 others were injured, and an entire community was traumatized. "Love is the Spirit" is a book about hope and healing , about recovering from senseless violence, and about how love conquers hate. The story of this congregation's brave journey for the last 10 years is told through 2 distinctive perspectives. First, photographs document the year following the attack, beginning with the outpouring of support from around the world, and concluding with the 1 year anniversary service. The second part consists of 3 essays written by survivors of that tragic event. Their poignant stories reveal first hand accounts of what it was like inside the sanctuary when the shooting began, to where they find themselves today, 10 years into their process of healing.
