About the Book
This book is the result of two short trips in the summers of 2009 and 2010. The first was to Oregon, Washington and Vancouver Island, the second to the mid-coast of Maine and to Rhode Island.
In many ways the northwest and northeast regions are similar. Forests of tall evergreens dominate the landscape. Spectacular rock formations jut out at the coastlines. Mosses and ferns carpet the woodland floor, and lichens grow everywhere on rocks and trees. Because of their different geologies and climates, the regions are also markedly different.
With these photographs, I have tried to capture the character and beauty of each region's landscape. Sometimes the beauty is dramatic, and sometimes it is quiet and often unnoticed.
